Burkina Faso and Senegal face off for first place in Group L

Burkina Faso faces Senegal this Thursday, November 14 in Bamako, the Malian capital, for the 5th day of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers. The main stake in this duel is first place in the group L.

The two teams, Burkina Faso (1st, 10 points, +7) and Senegal (2nd, 10 points, +6), are already qualified for CAN 2025. Victory will determine which of the two will occupy the head of the group.

Burkina Faso, however, must deal with several major absences. Key players like Bertrand Traoré, Dango Ouattara, Hervé Koffi, Abdoul Kader Ouattara, Mouhamed Konaté and Gustavo Sangaré will be missing. Despite this handicap, the “Stallions” are determined to retain first place, especially since they managed to obtain a draw (1-1) against Senegal during their first confrontation. The Burkinabe coach is counting on his young talents to reproduce this performance.

Senegal, for its part, is looking to string together a third consecutive victory and take the lead in Group L, after the disappointing draw in the first leg (1-1) at the Abdoulaye Wade stadium in Diamniadio. At a press conference this Wednesday, the coach of the “Lions”, Pape Thiaw, recalled that the objective is to win to regain first place.

In the other meeting of Group L, Burundi (3rd, 3 points) welcomes Malawi (4th, 0 points) this Thursday at 3:00 p.m. GMT.
