State, justice, police, gendarmerie and town hall join forces in Sainte-Rose

Faced with growing insecurity, they chose to stand together. The city of , the prefect, the commander of the gendarmerie and the prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre have signed a coordination agreement between the National Gendarmerie and the Municipal Police for more presence on the ground. A system aimed at strengthening the safety of residents.

The image is symbolic but important. The commander of the Guadeloupe gendarmerie, the prefect, the mayor of Sainte-Rose and the public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre, sitting side by side, behind a table, to sign an agreement aimed at pooling resources to better combat insecurity. Because in this northern commune of Basse-Terre, acts of delinquency and miscellaneous incidents are on the increase. Death by firearm, blockades and looting, double infanticide, the year 2024 was heavy.

Hence the decision, for public forces, to take the bull by the horns. The gendarmerie commander Christophe Perret and the public prosecutor Caroline Calbot justify the approach.

So how will this system be put in place to improve the “living well together” Sainte-Rosians? For the mayor of the town, Adrien Baron, it is essential to collaborate with the associations of Sainte-Rose who know the neighborhoods and the population.

Insecurity has been increasing in certain neighborhoods for a while. Older people are starting to be afraid to leave their homes. It is important to reassure them with more presence of gendarmes and municipal police officers on the ground.

Willy Trafond, president of the Maogani-là association

Same observation in the Boucan district. In the residences built almost 20 years ago, no one thought about social diversity. Result a phenomenon of ghettoization.

The problem is not just security. It is also social and economic. We cannot just do punishment.

Adrien Baron, mayor of Sainte-Rose

The presence of more police officers or gendarmes, however, represents a significant deterrent force. Hence the importance of pooling resources through this signed agreement.
