in Indre, a pioneering system soon to be set up in Écueillé

“It’s an idea that’s been in my head for a while. » An industrial electrician by training, Jean-Michel Rabier, now retired, remained connected to direct current. Back in the municipality of Écueillé since the start of the Ausphère mandate in 2020, the local child carried out, without tension, a major project: installing in his town of 1,200 souls a revolutionary system, unique in the department, of centralized remote management of public lighting. “It is now a matter of lighting just the right way, that is to say, where, when and how it is needed, marks the deputy in charge of energy, telephony, buildings, public lighting and works. An integral part of the ecological transition driven by communities, the transition of public lighting is underway, driven by regulations, new technologies, economic and environmental imperatives. »

“One more step towards the concept of smart city”

As a transition, Jean-Michel Rabier proposes a real revolution with the process Tegis-lighting plus developed by Lacroix. After the six months of work which will begin on December 15, 2024, Écueillé will find itself light years behind many of its counterparts in terms of lighting in June. “This will allow us to take a further step towards the concept of a smart city,” prophesies the deputy who was able to support his enlightened opinion by visiting Marcoussis (Essonne), a pioneer city in this area.

Jean-Michel Rabier started from an observation to draw up his design: “In a context of climate and energy crisis, the renovation of outdoor lighting makes it possible, by using the latest technologies in a reasoned manner, to combine energy saving and the environmental imperatives of biodiversity while improving comfort and citizen security in public spaces. »

“It is essential to take into account light pollution and its reduction while optimizing our carbon footprint”

This clear concept goes very far with, for example, the development of dark grids (network of ecological corridors used by nocturnal species). “From an environmental point of view, it is essential to take into account light pollution and its reduction while optimizing the community's carbon footprint through savings in electrical energy. »

A drastic reduction in costs

Écueillé was not starting from scratch. “20% of the approximately 400 light points in our network are LEDs. The 80% of current equipment, installed in the 1980s, has very high installed power for limited efficiency. Despite everything, we managed to reduce the municipality's annual consumption, which went from 74 megawatts in 2020 to 69 MG in 2022 and 54 MG in 2023.” Both consumption and the electricity bill (between €25,000 and €30,000) in the municipality will suffer a significant drop in voltage. “ We are immediately counting on a reduction of 50 to 60%”says Jean-Michel Rabier. The town will actually switch to 100% LED in the summer.

An investment in the future

> This project has a cost: €376,234 subsidized at 66% by the State (€187,371 from the Green Fund) or the Region (€58,000 from the Pays de Valençay).

> Écueillé benefited from the “first” effect and obtained a very competitive price. For Citeos de Vatan, which won the contract against the company Labrux du Blanc, this project is a very well-exposed showcase. In addition, project management will be graciously provided by Jean-Michel Rabier himself.

> The municipality thus borrows €125,000 for this investment in the future. “ It is not negligible, naturally, but it will contribute to the influence of our municipality by drastically reducing its energy expenditure, concludes Jean-Michel Rabier, who sees further. We will be able to carefully control our lighting, deal with hardware failures as quickly as possible or sustain our infrastructure as our needs evolve. It will allow us to possibly combine other devices such as camera sensors or electric bike charging stations. » Bright.
