The decision was announced this Wednesday, November 13 during a council of ministers in Paris. On departure, prefect Laurent Carrié talks about his results but remains “mobilized 100% until the last minute”.
“On the proposal of the Minister of the Interior, the functions of prefect of Gers exercised by Mr. Laurent Carrié are terminated, as of November 25, 2024.” The concise formula appears in a report which is itself succinct from a report of the council of ministers published this Wednesday, November 13.
Laurent Carrié took office as prefect of Gers on August 21, 2023, replacing Xavier Brunetière. Before that, he held the position of prefect responsible for equal opportunities in Bouches-du-Rhône.

Originally from Toulouse, where he completed his entire education up to the faculty of law, Laurent Carrié also served as Secretary General for Regional Affairs (SGAR) of Haute-Garonne before being appointed in 2019 “Territorial Advisor” to from the office of Edouard Philippe then of Jean Castex.
“I loved my time in Gers”
Tuesday, Prefect Carrié spoke about the agricultural crisis. He said he was ready to continue working “to provide solutions”.

No information on his new destination has yet been brought to our attention. “I loved my time in the Gers,” Laurent Carrié nevertheless confides to us. “I remain 100% mobilized until the last minute on departmental issues, including agriculture, my priority.”
The prefect of Gers said he was “happy to have been able to contribute to the progress of major issues such as the Auch slaughterhouse, the RN 124 and the new hospital”.
He must go to a farm in Astarac on Friday on the subject of vaccination against bluetongue.
