Initialed by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, and the Saudi Minister of the Interior, Prince Abdelaziz bin Saud bin Nayef Al Saud, these agreements concern the organization of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, the establishment of a legal framework for the transfer of convicted persons, as well as the establishment of extradition procedures for wanted persons, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Justice.
They aim to strengthen the effectiveness of judicial and security cooperation in areas such as investigations, prosecutions, judgments, and the fight against crime in all its forms, adds the same source, noting that by promoting the work jointly in compliance with the national laws of the two countries, these agreements contribute to the fight against cross-border crime, to the reduction of the risks of impunity and offer social and psychological rehabilitation mechanisms for convicted persons.
Furthermore, the ministry indicated that the two parties also discussed the issue of facilitating the transfer of convicted persons incarcerated in penitentiary establishments in each country, in a humanitarian approach aimed at bringing detainees closer to their families.
This initiative demonstrates the commitment of the two States to strengthen family ties and support the social reintegration of detainees, it was noted, indicating that the meeting was also an opportunity to discuss other subjects of interest common, including coordination in the fight against organized crime and the strengthening of judicial and security cooperation, while respecting the principles of sovereignty and public order of the two nations.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr. Ouahbi stressed that “these agreements mark an important step in the judicial and security cooperation program between our two countries and reflect our attachment to a lasting strategic alliance”.
“They make it possible to consolidate justice and effectively fight against impunity in cases of transnational crime,” he said.
These agreements constitute a major advance in the position of the Kingdom of Morocco as a key player in the fight against transnational crime and demonstrate its commitment to strengthening judicial and security cooperation with its brotherly and friendly countries, in the common interest. of the security and stability of the two nations, concludes the press release.
This meeting was attended by several senior officials from both sides, including, for the Saudi side, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Dawood, and for the Moroccan side, the Kingdom’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mustapha Mansouri, as well as other senior Justice Department officials.
