After a first round of summons on Friday November 8academy inspector Fabien Ben must receive Friday November 14 the other Jura teachers resistant to the evaluations of primary classes requested by the Ministry of National Education.

There are in fact fourteen Jura residents who refused to offer assessments to their students in September.

I don't have to interpret the decision of these teachers. From the moment I notice that the expected service has not been provided, I must ask for explanations.

And to specify that the sanctions for teachers can range from point of order to the disciplinary sanction passing through the salary deduction (1/30e).

Assessments that spark debate

For their part, the teachers summoned explain that they first responded to a union instructions.

In August 2024unions Snuipp-FSU, CGT Education and Sud Education spoke out against the assessments and called on teachers to block. “I wasn’t really surprised. We know that these national evaluations are the target of a lot of criticism and opposition. Moreover, I had already summoned teachers last year for the same reason. But we must not forget that 98% of Jura teachers completed these assessments », assures Fabien Ben.

A “robotic” evaluation method?

Beyond respecting the union instructions, the refractory teachers defend another approach to the necessary evaluation of students.

From CP to CM 2, all students are now assessed every year. The first problem is to organize these evaluations at a time when the students' knowledge is weakened since in September, they return after two months of vacation. These assessments are timed, which disadvantages students who are slower in their thinking even if they have the knowledge. This places dyslexic or dyspraxic children in particular difficulty.

Odile*, refractory Jura teacher

Like her colleagues, she points out the systematic nature of these national evaluations which do not seem to take particular cases into account. “This does not meet the needs of the student; this evaluation method is like robotic. It's about putting children into categories. »

Everyone has their own choice

Refusing to implement ministerial instructions, the refractory teachers nevertheless offered assessments to their classes. “We did not stand by and do nothing. We designed our own assessments according to the needs of our students and according to our educational choices”, explains Odile, ensuring that she has received the support of the students' parents in her approach.

According to her, her colleagues did the same, not as part of a concerted educational action, but “ each according to their own pedagogy. »

A misunderstanding?

For the departmental directorate of national education, these arguments are not new and stem from a misunderstanding of the objectives of these national evaluations.

These evaluations are criticized for being organized in September. But it is precisely by carrying out them after the holidays that we can see whether the knowledge has been properly recorded, whether it has become automated. I add that carrying out these national assessments does not prevent teachers from carrying out local assessments.

Fabien Ben, academy inspector

And the academy inspector insisted: “The advantage of these evaluations is precisely that they are carried out using the same method and simultaneously throughout the country. It is not a question of stigmatizing or putting students in boxes but of have a tool that helps us identify fragile situations. »
