A renewal was needed following the disappearance of the Savoie Mont Blanc Council, which notably participated in financing the wood-forest sector and the agricultural economy. “We did not want to copy and paste what the CSMB could do before, but on the contrary, take the opportunity to take the time to think about new ways of doing things”declared Hervé Gaymard, president of the Department, during the presentation of these new policies on November 13, in Apremont.
Strong support for the forest
Concerning the wood-forest sector, the Department is committing a budgetary envelope of 1 million euros per year until 2027, with five main orientations: anchoring the wood sector in Savoie; develop sustainable and sustainable management of local forests; promotion and innovation in these areas; adaptation to climate change and public awareness. 240,000 m3 of wood are harvested each year in the department, in a sector which represents 3,500 jobs.
A complete agricultural component
With regard to agriculture, the envelope is obviously more substantial. It amounts to 7 million euros annually, again until 2027. “The Department's new agricultural policy aims to support organizations and farmers in the challenges they face. Eighteen months of consultation work was carried out with industry stakeholders and the Savoie Mont Blanc Chamber of Agriculture.explains Gilbert Guigue, vice-president of the Department. The sector contracts, eleven in number, cover all production present in Savoie: beekeeping, arboriculture, dairy and meat farming, goats, sheep, horticulture, viticulture, vegetable production, poultry and other small sectors.. Within this agricultural component are two thematic contracts relating to pastoralism and agricultural land. They aim in particular to strengthen the sustainability of operations to ensure their transmission and renewal, but also to promote environmentally friendly practices, and fully contribute to the supply of the out-of-home catering sector, as well as circuits proximity.
