The Notre-Dame de la Nativité church, located in Château-Guibert in Vendée, is preparing for a new cultural life. According to information reported by Actu.fr, the Heritage Foundation recently allocated an endowment of 100,000 euros to begin its rehabilitation. The place of worship had been closed since 2018 for security reasons.
Built between 1892 and 1894, the church presents significant water infiltration problems which have compromised its stability, threatening the conservation of this local religious heritage.
An artistic project for Vendée
Faced with the scale of the work, the small town of Château-Guibert chose to carry out a project combining conservation and contemporary artistic creation, ensuring a dual religious and cultural role for the church without modifying its sacred status. This project is distinguished by the involvement of Fabrice Hybert, an artist native of Vendée, responsible for creating giant frescoes and furniture specific to this space.
The work, scheduled to begin in February 2024, is expected to last until January 2027. Ultimately, the rehabilitated church will become a major contemporary art venue in Vendée, bringing unique and lasting cultural value to this region. .
