A new act of violence in the world of football. This Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the Argentan criminal court (Orne) sentenced a young 19-year-old player from the team of Briouze (Orne) for violence he committed against a young referee in Gacé (Orne).
Shocked, the referee has an asthma attack
On May 27, 2023, during a high-tension football match between Gacé and Briouze, a young referee is assaulted by two players following a red card for a middle finger. A first player will jump on him and he tighten the neckthe second will hit him in the back while he was trying to take refuge in the locker room. Shocked, he will even do one asthma attack. He will make an incident report and file a complaint against these players. He will give the police the jersey number and name of these young people.

Examined, he will be given a medical certificate mentioning incapacity for three days. He adds that he was followed by a psychologist for a month and had great difficulty recovering. He requests compensation of €500 as compensation.
The alleged perpetrator rejects the accusation
Today, only the young person who hit the referee is being judged, which he refuses to acknowledge. For him, he only pushed it. He admits he was upset, but maintains he didn't hit him. The other player has already been tried, but by the juvenile court.
The mother of this young referee, who was present during this match, affirms that she did not hear any racist remarks, and admits to having been shocked to see her son being attacked in front of her, during a simple football match . Since then, she no longer goes to matches for fear of reliving the same scene.
“Violence that must stop”
A sport which must be carried out with respect for the players, the referees, the public and not with violence as we see even in the professional environment, a violence which must stop.
The public prosecutor will then require that the young defendant complete, at his own expense, a citizenship course within six months or €600 in the event of non-compliance.
“A trivialization of racist remarks”
The defendant's lawyer reports that racist remarks were made in the stands, an imitation of the monkey. “We are unfortunately experiencing a trivialization of racist remarks in football matches.” His client is stressed and has difficulty explaining himself, but he never intended to be violent.
The court will ultimately follow the requisitions of the public prosecutor. He must, in addition, pay his victim the sum of €400 for repairs.
