Quentin de Binche, with a disability, excluded from his higher education school: “The worst thing is not knowing why…”

Always encouraged

Émile is in total disarray. “Despite his disability, Quentin did everything to succeed in his studies. We have always encouraged him, he does his best every day to obtain a diploma and there, we exclude him as if he were an ordinary student, a simple number and without taking into account his difficulties.”

Without school in November, Quentin remains motivated to obtain a higher education diploma. “The weirdest thing about this story is that following his exclusion, he was enrolled in a school in Mons which accepted his registration. This is indeed positive for him but it raises other questions. So, how is it that in one school it is no longer fundable but in another it is? For Quentin’s education, it’s good but he will find himself in a school that he doesn’t know, with students and teachers that he doesn’t know either. He may be over 24 years old, but his disability makes him mentally much younger and he also experiences social difficulties…

Not enough credits and incomplete file

On the side of the Haute École Provinciale du Condorcet, we are confirmed that Quentin was registered with them since the 2021-22 academic year and that he was already registered in 2023-24 as an unfundable student due to his academic career. “For the following academic year (2024 – 2025), Quentin actually submitted a new registration request as a non-fundable student since he had not acquired sufficient credits“, the school confirms to us. “This request was refused following an incomplete file. The appeal to the Appeals Commission was declared inadmissible. Subsequently, we immediately issued, following the student’s request, the necessary certificates for re-registration in another establishment to allow him to continue his academic career..”

The school further confirms that the inclusion of students experiencing difficulties is indeed part of their prerogatives. “Quentin benefited from special monitoring and supervision with us. Arrangements for exams and individualized coaching were put in place during these years, while awareness raising among the administrative and teaching team was also carried out.. Last year, no less than 310 students taking courses with us benefited from an individualized support plan.
