This year, the Samaritan does us a favor by reinventing itself into a enchanting winter gardenof November 8, 2024 to January 5, 2025. Between abundant nature and luminous poetry, the department store is transformed into a XXL greenhouse where we get lost with delight among the magical foliage and fantastic creatures. Inspired by the ivy patterns and chestnut leaves that line its Art Nouveau walls, as well as the botanical passion of its co-founder Marie-Louise Cognacq, La Samaritaine joins forces with Thoiry Wild Lights to give life to a magical walk where nature, in majesty, regains its rights. Under the benevolent eye of the majestic peacock, emblem of the place, which proudly displays its feathers on the fresco on the 5th floor, each aisle blossoms like a secret garden, ready to reveal its share of wonders.
Surprises flourish on each floor. Of the fantasy snailsof the XXL butterflies and giant mushrooms spring forth from all sides, illuminating the path like so many little treasures to discover. The play of light transforms the footbridge connecting the Pont-Neuf and Rivoli buildings into an enchanted alley. We sneak in, amazed, ready to capture these magical moments that will never fade.
On the Rivoli side, the excitement continues: the showcases take root under the expert hands of six artists. Their works unfold like exotic plants from a secret garden, playing with textures and materials to surprise the eye. We thus come across Juliette Berthonneau's Pensiflora mobilea, a floating stemless flower that dances with the winter breeze. Further on, Rafflesiaceae by Pauline D'Andigné defies the laws of botany with its soft sculptures of incredible dimensions, while Macula Proliferum by Manon Daviet wraps itself like a liana around the rocks, all covered in knitting.
The journey continues with Astra Desideri by Michel Jocaille, a sparkling precious species resembling a fantastic amanita, before admiring the symphony of leather flowers Convergencia floralis by Florian Sicard and finishing with Pilosus Hybrida by Lucas Tortolano, an astonishing creature which forms the hairy hybrid family of plants, animals and humans. A real urban jungle, where each creation seems to have grown by itself to flourish before our amazed eyes.
So, ready to go green and experience a Noël with the scent of enchantment? To the Samaritanthe holidays take root in a magical universe where Art Nouveau and nature light up to give life to a Christmas that is as magical as it is eternal!
