The flame of memory will travel through Finistère at the end of November: 600 young people mobilized

From November 26 to 29, 2024, the flame of memory will travel through Finistère, at the initiative of the Department, the Prefecture of Finistère and the Armed Forces. The event is part of the commemorations of 80 years of Liberation. Its objective is to “raise awareness and mobilize the public, and particularly young people, around the importance of duty of memoryas well as making tribute to the women and men who fell for .”

The journey of the flame of memory will begin in on November 22, during a ceremony under the Arc de Triomphe where the flame will be taken from the tomb of the unknown soldier by around thirty school students from Finistère. She will then join Finistère thanks to a cycling relay carried out by a team of soldiers.

“Once on Finistère territory, six emanations of the flame will join the six starting points of Ploudalmézeau, Kerlouan, Saint-Pol-de-Léon, Saint-Goazec, Quimperlé, Quimper from where they will begin their respective journeys before all converging towards the tip of Pen-Hir in Camaret-sur-Mer, their place of arrival for a final ceremony,” specify the organizers in a press release.

Ceremonies and educational activities

Throughout the stages, ceremonies and educational activities will be put in place with the schools and communities visited. The Torch relay will be carried out by military units.

On November 29, a large ceremony will be organized at the tip of Pen Hir. More than 600 young people from Finistère will participate and walk to the Monument to the Bretons of Free France where the flame will be placed.
