Against urban rodeos, a mayor wants to shoot paintball at the perpetrators in the Oise

Compiègnethe second largest city in Oise, is facing a “worrying increase” in motorized rodeos. Descents of two-wheelers, which perform tricks on the road, and which “disturb public tranquility”, denounces the mayor (LR) Philippe Marini.

For several years, the Compiégnois elected official has been fighting against the perpetrators of these troubles. Particularly with the “Stop Rodeo” initiative, implemented in 2020, which allowed the seizure of more than fifty two-wheelers.

But today, Philippe Marini feels paralyzed by the proliferation of wild rodeos.

“Faced with the scale of this phenomenon, the municipality alone cannot do everything. A mayor doesn't have a magic wand! This is why I call on the State to strengthen our action. For an effective response, we must have adequate means,” said the person concerned in a press release.

He asks the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, for authorization to use new measures “on an experimental basis”.

And in particular the use of a spray and a paintball of PMC coded paint. “An innovative device allowing mark troublemakers with a code undetectable to the naked eye but revealed under UV lamp”.

This marking would facilitate prosecution, even in the event of a leak.

He also suggests to the Minister of the Interior to authorize the municipal police of Compiègne to use drones “already in our possession since 2020”.

“Essential to guarantee safety”

“A 2023 decree prevents the municipal police from using them for this type of intervention. I consider this decision inconsistent with current security issues,” deplores Philippe Marini. “These tools would allow us to identify caches, track offenders without exposing our agents, and intervene in a more targeted and safer manner.”

Requests “essential to guarantee the safety of our fellow citizens and restore the tranquility of our neighborhoods”.
