Materrup is building a solid future with its low-carbon cement

The latest fundraising of 24 million euros, carried out last June from Eurazeo and EIC Fund, attests to this. The company, which has 20 employees and is currently recruiting ten, is no longer at all the young technological start-up rewarded with the Néo Aquitaines start-up prize in 2022, but an SME in full development whose technology, protected by at less than 50 patents, now extends beyond the Landes, its land, sorry, its birth clay.

Ten factories will emerge from the ground

“Thanks to the latest fundraising, our cement will be manufactured in around ten factories in and Europe. Establishments identical to the pilot plant in Saint-Geours-de-Maremne, which has been operating since 2022 and has proven itself,” explains Julie Neuville, sister of the founders who now chairs the company and manages public relations.

“The quality of the cement produced using our process is now proven. Concrete blocks, paving, double walls, foundations… The uses are increasing. » Collaborations too, with construction players. “In price, we are just above the prices of conventional cement, but with the massification of production, which joins that of conventional cement, and uses which are also identical, this will not last,” promises Julie Neuville.

“Short circuit” cement, which is made from clay located closest to each factory, is hitting its target while the construction market is suffering. But, struggling to “green” their activities as much as possible (cement alone represents 8% of global carbon emissions), manufacturers in the sector see Materrup as a significant area of improvement. As a result, the company's turnover was multiplied by four in one year.
