In the night of November 5 to 6 last, the firefighters of Saint-Ouen-des-Alleux (Ille-et-Vilaine) received a paged call at 11 p.m. Reason: a home birth.

A fourth birth in the history of barracks. The team was made up of Sergeant Erwan Monfort, head of equipment, Corporal Julien Ruffault, driver of the VSAV and sapper 1st class David Gallais.

Moment of exchanges

Martin was born at 11:12 p.m. It weighs 4 kg and measures 51cm. Erwan cut the cord, Julien and David performed first aid on the baby and the mother.

The SAMU doctor Ferns took over. The firefighters took the child and the mother to the Sagesse clinic in Rennes.

Martin has a 3-year-old big brother, Baptiste. Tuesday November 12the family came to the barracks for a moment of discussion.

Moments that cannot be forgotten. We had training in January 2024 with the SDIS midwife.

Élodie Cairou (the mother), Fabrice Doare (the father), Baptiste and Martin are invited to the Sainte-Barbe. Martin will meet Sofia, born with the firefighters four months ago.

Élodie says:

At 10 p.m., the contractions were more frequent, we had thought about leaving early. Fabrice took Baptiste to a daycare. My water broke and I called the fire brigade. Everything went well, that's the main thing.
