. The 4th regiment of hunters decorated for its action in the Sahel

This November 11, 2024 was a special day for the 4e Hunter Regiment. After being present at the commemorative ceremony in the morning in front of the prefecture, the soldiers of the Clermont Prince regiment gathered in the afternoon on the Place de Verdun for a significant event in the life of a regiment since its standard received a new decoration. In this case, the general director of the Institute of Advanced National Defense Studies and Higher Military Education, Hervé de Courrèges, former corps commander of the 4th from 2011 to 2013, came in person to staple a third cross of Military Valor with bronze palm for his action in the Sahel. The Cross of Military Valor rewards individual or collective actions of brilliance in external operations. The standard of the regiment, which already had two crosses of military valor, one for its intense commitment in the Afghan theater and the other for its feats of arms in the Central African Republic, now has a third.

Many tactical victories

Engaged from 2014 to 2022 as part of operations Serval then Barkhane, the soldiers of the 4 were deployed in the confines of the desert in Mali, Niger and Chad. The armored tactical groups armed by the regiment, under the orders of Colonels Fatinet, Thieulloy, Chilly and Tanouarn, obtained numerous tactical victories in the Sahelo-Saharan strip. The squadrons and mountain commandos of the 4th dealt severe blows to the jihadist enemy, using their maneuvering skills and proving their agility, tenacity and bravery during intense combat. The citation awarded on November 11 is the symbol of the regiment's total commitment and recalls that five of its men died there for . We will soon celebrate the fifth anniversary of the tragic death of four members of the regiment's mountain commando group in Mali in a helicopter accident which left 13 dead on November 25, 2019 during Operation Barkhane. Another of its members died two years later, in October 2021, in an accident in Timbuktu.
