“The Federal Republic of Germany has committed new funds in the form of grants amounting to 147.47 million euros, including new budgetary support of 55 million euros for the implementation of structural reforms.” The information was given in a joint press release from the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dakar. In the document, it is indicated that “the new funds will support Senegal in strengthening the rule of law, transparency, digital transformation, as well as energy network infrastructure”. Likewise, it is emphasized that these funds “will also contribute to improving the sustainable investment climate, as well as the economic prospects of young people and women”.
The document specifies that these funds are the result of negotiations between the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation (Mepc) of Senegal and the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (Bmz) of the Federal Republic of Germany , which took place between the two countries on November 5 and 6, 2024 in Dakar.
The press release underlines that “the intergovernmental negotiations strengthen the high-trust partnership between Senegal and Germany, while paving the way for new initiatives aimed at meeting the challenges of sustainable development”. Thus, the document informs, “the two parties are committed to continuing their joint efforts to sustainably improve the living conditions of the populations and promote the economic progress of Senegal”.
Furthermore, the press release informs that “this meeting, co-chaired by Mr. Mouhamadou Bamba Diop, Secretary General of the Ministry of the Economy, and Ms. Birgit Pickel, Director General Africa at Bmz, made it possible to address essential themes for the development of Senegal. “The discussions focused on several priority sectors, including economic development and professional training, good governance, climate and just energy transition, as well as the pharmaceutical sector,” inform the services of the ministry and the German embassy.
