In a funeral sector often perceived as commercial and impersonal, Gilles de Percin works to transform this vision… By creating Le Petit Percinin Bourron-Marlotte (Seine-et-Marne), the first funeral directors cooperative in Île-de-, it seeks to offer unique and authentic support to grieving families.

Le Petit Percin, an innovative funeral cooperative

Founded in June 2024the Le Petit Percin cooperative offers an alternative approach to traditional funeral directors. With more than 25 years of experience in the field, it is committed to placing simplicity and sobriety at the heart of its services, far from the dominant business model. This model is based on a unique supportat each stage of mourning, with the aim of “changing the vision of death” by creating a supportive and respectful environment…

He also expresses his astonishment at the soaring prices in the funeral sector, which have increased by 60% since 1994. “I am a little disgusted by the system,” he explains. By founding this cooperative, he wants to offer an ethical alternative to put families at the heart of care. Commercial sobriety is at the heart of the cooperative's philosophy, and it wishes to restore meaning to a frequently stigmatized profession.

Gilles De Percin denounces the lack of recognition of the realities of death in our modern society and calls for a change of perspective. “The objective is for people to have another vision of death and another point of view on this profession, which, in my opinion, is very noble,” he insists. Today, we have lost all the meaning that it can bring to people. »

The Le Petit Percin cooperative stands out for its principle of transparency. It makes it possible to integrate different categories of associates: employees, volunteers, families, and first-rank associates… Each member having an equal voice, regardless of their financial contribution. This model promotes collective and democratic management, reflecting a true social interest.

People at the center

Le Petit Percin embodies a deeply supportive approach. Gilles De Percin proposes a model where “the community can get involved”, with monitored accounts and a fund dedicated to the most deprived. “It’s a solidarity and social economy,” he summarizes, hoping that his cooperative inspires the funeral sector.

Gilles De Percin emphasizes the importance of supporting families rather than simply selling funeral products: “I don’t just want to be another company,” emphasizes the founder. The cooperative focuses on a human approach with a single point of contact throughout the process.

Beyond the organization of funerals, it offers discussion groups led by a listening professional, to support mourning, thus promoting a community and a different vision of death. Le Petit Percin also offers voluntary assistance to families with administrative procedures: “When that day arrives, we are helpless and devastated. It is in this difficult moment that we are here to support and assist. »

With his initiative, he hopes to see the cooperative model develop in the funeral sector. “Communities may be afraid of entering into a private company and being accused of a conflict of interest, but it is through ignorance of this status,” he assures.

With his associates, he pleads for more dignity, moving away from the commercial practices sometimes observed in this sector. With Petit Percin, he intends to develop a model to transform the vision of funeral services in France.
