Increase in the cost of waste: “There is good management of inBW”

In this last area, we know that the news is quite hot: those responsible have just announced cost increases which will be passed on to the municipalities under the principle of “true cost” of waste. Several municipal councils, in response, had to vote on increases in the collection tax for 2025.

While the agenda for the next general assembly of the inBW was to be put to the vote, the leader of the Ecolo opposition, Thierry Meunier asked to speak. In recent years, he was a provincial administrator within the intermunicipal inBW.

“You should know that for three years, the waste sector was in chronic deficit. There is a neutralization which had the effect of deferring a debt which amounts to 6 million euros. We are going to smooth this over the entire next legislature, which will amount to one euro per year per inhabitant I must recognize that inBW has made considerable efforts to reduce the volume of waste: we have gone from 160 kg per year per inhabitant to 115 kg currently. , even if this volume decreases, costs continue to increase We are talking about a reasonable increase of 5 euros per inhabitant, this remains good management of the inBW. We subscribe to this proactive policy of waste reduction, which is also. ecological.”

For the Committed, Benjamin Goes indicated that his group also believes that the inBW is well managed, although this increase in the cost of waste treatment causes concerns. Agreeing that many factors influence the situation, he called on future administrators to carefully monitor this burden on citizens.

Taking to the podium to respond, provincial deputy Sophie Keymolen mainly addressed Thierry Meunier. “Thank you for your intellectual honesty, she greeted. In certain municipalities, the Greens do not have the same…”
