It was D-day for the members of the Environmentalists (formerly EELV) to Toulouse. Party activists were in fact called on this Tuesday, November 12, 2024 to vote for their head of file to municipal elections 2026 during a general meeting. And according to our information, it is ultimately Régis Godec, co-secretary of the party in the region, who won the bid, with approximately 62,5 % voices.
Régis Godec preferred to Antoine Maurice
Recall that two candidates, both well known locally, were in the running to be environmental leaders in the 2026 Capitol race: Régis Godec et Antoine Maurice.
During the last Municipal elections, it was the second who carried the colors of the party and the united left through the Archipel Citoyen list, failing at the gates of the Capitol, with 48.02% in the second round.
Hélène Cabanes deputy to the leader
Evoking a concern for “parity”, the party has this time chosen to propose an “ordered pair”. The only candidate, the municipal and metropolitan councilor Hélène Cabanes will therefore be the deputy of the new leader in this campaign.
Régis Godec, a 51-year-old librarian
HAS 51 ansRégis Godec is a militant vert long-term. Member of ecologists since 2005, after several years of commitment to environmental education and anti-globalization, he is regional co-secretary of the party in Midi-Pyrénées for several years.
Born in Brittany and a librarian by profession, Régis Godec knows the Capitole well having been, from 2008 to 2014, deputy of Pierre Cohenthen mayor (PS) of Toulouse, in charge of eco-districts and participatory housing. He then spent six years on the benches of the opposition alongside… Antoine Maurice, but had never not represented in 2020.
“Bringing together left-wing and environmentalist forces”
Remember that the environmental leader will not be not necessarily top of the list in the Municipal elections, but he will have, with his partner, the mission of lead “discussions with other political and citizen forces” with a view to “building a team”, detailed Laura Verlhacspokesperson for the Toulouse Ecologists. Objective: bring together the left as widely as possible “to build an alternative to Jean-Luc Moudenc.”
Top of the list? “It’s a possibility”, but not the only one
Newly elected leader, Régis Godec does not hide his emotion when reading the results, especially since “we are the first political group to have carried out a democratic designation of its leader for the Municipalities,” he observes.
So will it be THE head of the list of the united left? “It’s a possibility”, assures Régis Godec, “ecologists can lead a list, but they can also and above all bring everyone together”. Thus, the leader already has his eyes already turned towards his allies left:
We will be, with Hélène Cabanes, in a process of openness and discussions. We will therefore meet our partners as quickly as possible.
Régis Godec also believes that it is this ability to work towards the unity of the left which was able to convince the activists: “I strongly emphasized the desire to work with our partners, to seek unionand maybe that’s why I was chosen.”
Marine Tondelier in Toulouse Friday
Namely that Marine Tondeliernational secretary of the Ecologists, will visit the Pink City on Friday. A perfect opportunity to anoint the new leader… Because the party announces it: the arrival of its boss in Toulouse “demonstrates that the conquest of the fourth city of France is a strong issue for Environmentalists”.
