The Concoret veterans association (Morbihan) is affiliated with the National Union of Combatants, created in 1918 by General Clemenceau and Father Brottier.
Its primary purpose is to welcome veteransbut also war widows and orphans. Combatants from all wars and external operations come together to maintain this duty of memory and solidarity. The “Soldiers of France” complete the ranks with former conscripts or people keen to perpetuate this memory.
Five furry names are missing from the war memorial
“For around ten years, work has been carried out by André Besnard to determine the names of the “Dead for France” registered. By cross-referencing the various archives, five names of poilus were missing from the war memorial and we wanted to repair this oversight,” underlines the president of the association, Jean-Pierre Le Bourhis.
“The municipality took charge of engraving those who were absent, which was done this week.” It remains to continue the renovation with the renovation of the joints and the painting of the chain.
New members wanted
“We lose members every year, particularly former AFNs or widows of veterans. This year, we paid tribute to two AFN comrades, Francis Louvel and Georges Gervaise, who died in April and June 2024. In order to continue our action, we need to recruit new members, whatever their status.”
