Expected for many years, the crematorium from Ploërmel (Morbihan) is slow to emerge from the ground. Initially scheduled for the end of 2024, the opening has been postponed by several months.

In avril 2022when validating the name of the manager of this new equipment, Patrick Le Diffon, mayor of Ploërmel and president of Ploërmel community, announced: “The duration of the work is planned to be spread over 24 months. The inauguration is planned for the summer of 2024.”

The crematorium construction site was almost a year late

Contacted by the editorial staff of Ploermelais In June 2023, Etienne Chedotal, operational sector director at OGF, took stock of the calendar. At the time, the first shovels were expected “for the beginning of 2024” for an opening “at the end of 2024”.

But, at the end of the monthOctober 2024the building with a total surface area of ​​570 m2 has still not emerged from the ground in the park of Lande du Moulin. “The project is still relevant. There is no change to the content and the approach,” confirms Patrick Le Diffon.

The work ultimately started much later than planned. “The project was almost a year late for various reasons,” informs the elected official.

An impatiently awaited opening

Since the month of September 2024workers and construction equipment are hard at work on the 10,000 m2 plot2 located in the municipalities of Ploërmel and Gourhel. “The work is in progress,” announces the mayor and president of Ploërmel community. “We look forward to seeing the completion of this work,” he says.

Designed to meet a real need in the region, the crematorium will consist of a ceremony room with 120 seats. A memorial garden that can be used for scattering ashes is also planned.

According to OGF, “twelve months of work” are necessary before the equipment is put into service.
