On November 20, 1989, the United Nations the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

For the 35e anniversary of the adoption of this convention at the 44e session of the United Nations General Assembly, a new group of UNICEF volunteers in Langon (Gironde) will organize on Wednesday November 20, 2024 a birthday party at the La Quincaillerie intercommunal media library, rue Maubec in Langon.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will take place in the lobby.

“Defend children”

Hervé, Vanessa and Jean-Pierre will present to children (and adults):

  • The International Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • The motivations and goals of Unicef, an association for the defense of children's rights

The aim is to explain to children the content of the convention and how it protects children.

“The objective is also to present what UNICEF is for, what its actions are in the territory,” continue the volunteers; raise awareness of children's rights and disseminate these rights ; defend children. »

UNICEF cares for all children, regardless of country.

Coloring kits and goodies

All this will be done in a manner playful with coloring kits and goodies for children.

The city of Langon is joining this initiative as part of its title of “Child Friendly City”, awarded by UNICEF in 2022.

THE UNICEF Blue Days are taking place this November on the theme of education and are an opportunity to celebrate the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“This day at the media library, a place for children to meet, for culture and open-mindedness, will allow children to understand their right to education. »

The UNICEF Children's Literature Prizewhich raises awareness of children's rights, will also be presented. It is the children who vote themselves on a selection of UNICEF works.

The theme of this award this year is: “Growing up in a sustainable world doesn’t wait.”
