Jeanne, 95, released a balloon as part of Pink October from the Saint-Jean d'Aubusson nursing home.
France – This is the beautiful story of a balloon that traveled more than 1,300 kilometers. Jeanne, 95, resident of the Saint-Jean nursing home in Aubusson, a town of some 3,000 inhabitants located in the Creuse, released a balloon on October 21 on which she had attached a message as part of the campaign International Pink October. Two weeks later, on November 5, she received a response from Germany, giving her news of her aerial missive.
This release of around thirty balloons inflated with helium in the park of the establishment was organized by two agents from the Saint-Jean nursing home, “one of whom had been confronted with breast cancer about four years ago”said the retirement home HuffPost.
Landing among the cattle
The objective of this activity for residents and staff was twofold: “Exchange with strangers » living in another region or country, and “raise awareness about breast cancer and screening”.
Reason why, on each balloon was attached a little pink paper, as you can see belowwith the address of the nursing home like an invitation to correspond. On the back of the box, the first name of the issuer, « Jeanne » in this case, was indicated.

Depending on the winds, Jeanne's balloon traveled a very long way from Aubusson, undoubtedly flying over the plains and forests before crossing the German border and landing in a field. It is precisely in a “cattle grazing in the town of Neumünster right in the middle of the state (Countries, editor's note) of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany » that the object was found, continues the Saint-Jean nursing home.
Whoever came across this French balloon wanted to respond to Jeanne, as you can read in this lettershared on Facebook by the establishment. At the local branch of France Bleu, Évelyne Pinlon, a health executive at the establishment, was enthusiastic about this missive written by an unknown person living in Germany: “He is a person who writes very well in French, without any spelling mistakes.”
