In Sables-d'Olonne, on November 8, an important step was taken for the preservation of the oceans. On the occasion of the creation ceremony of the Vendée Globe Foundation, Prince Albert II signed a historic partnership with this new organization, intended to defend marine ecosystems.
During this ceremony, the Monegasque Sovereign, accompanied by several personalities, underlined the importance of cooperation between the Prince Albert II Foundation and the Vendée Globe Foundation. This partnership, which combines science, sport and environmental commitment, aims to better understand and protect the oceans, while encouraging respectful behavior towards the marine environment.

In the presence of Mr. Alain Leboeuf, President of the Vendée Departmental Council, Mr. Gilles Sallé, President of the Vendée Globe Foundation, and Mr. Olivier Wenden, Vice-President of the Prince Albert II Foundation, the Sovereign reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between these two entities in the fight against the degradation of marine ecosystems.
A partnership at the heart of the dynamics of the Vendée Globe
The partnership is part of the dynamic of the famous sailing race, the Vendée Globe, a global challenge around the world solo. A major sporting event that embodies values of courage, perseverance and, above all, respect for the ocean. This Sunday, the tenth edition of the race will start, marking a turning point in the competition's environmental initiatives.
The two institutions, which share common values, are committed to promoting sustainability and innovation in sailing, while raising awareness among the general public of the need to protect the oceans. An essential aspect of the partnership is the participation of a Vendée Globe skipper in a program of the Prince Albert II Foundation, intended for young leaders in favor of the environment.
Concrete projects for a lasting impact
This partnership also takes the form of support for several large-scale projects. In 2024, the Vendée Globe Foundation Endowment Fund will notably support the Consortium Share the Oceanthe mission Williamas well as a collaboration with UNESCO and the IMOCA Globe series. These initiatives aim to strengthen scientific efforts and encourage concrete actions for the preservation of seas and oceans.
Prince Albert II has been appointed Honorary President of the Foundation, whose missions will be guided by a Scientific Council chaired by Dr. Frank Zal, a recognized expert in marine biology. This honorary role will further strengthen the scientific and ecological dimension of the projects supported by the organization.
