New important catch for the Gard National Police. Friday November 8, 2024, around 4:00 p.m., the police spotted the customer of a grocery store located in the Arènes sector in Nîmes. So far, nothing abnormal… Unfortunately for the client and the manager of this establishment, the situation would quickly turn sour.
While checking the 35-year-old individual, the officials noticed that he had just purchased packets of cigarettes in an establishment which apparently did not no right to sell…
Upon entering the grocery store, the police noticed the presence of numerous packets of cigarettes.
Packages resold for €5
On site, the police found around 750 cartons of cigarettes hidden in boxes, which represents “ 7539 packages ».
“The package was sold for 5 euros which made it possible to estimate the market value of this seizure at 37,695 euros,” specifies the Gard National Police. The manager of the establishment was immediately placed in police custody for fraudulently selling cigarettes without having the status of seller.
New take a few days later
A few days later, on Tuesday November 12, 2024, the police carried out a similar operation still at Nimesat the level of galerie George Sand. The police found 293 packets of tobacco (cigarettes, chewing tobacco, hookah tobacco, rolling tobacco) in a grocery store. A procedure has been established for possession for the purpose of selling tobacco.
The day before, at Alèsthe BAC checked an individual at the wheel of his vehicle… They found an open sports bag in the back of the car containing several dozen cartons of cigarettes. Placed in police custody and then released, the 23-year-old young man will have to answer for his actions in court. All of the cigarettes were destroyed.
