The boulodrome municipal Lohuecnext to Callac (Côtes-d'Armor) recently hosted an international meeting of Breton ballvery friendly, between local players and bowlers from England.
Chris, Steve, Peter, Garry and Rick are retired teachers from the same high school in Dorset, in the south of England. All five of them share a passion, uncommon across the Channel, for Breton ball !
“An essential debrief at the pub! “
This virus which was transmitted to his playmates by Chris, who owns a holiday home in Lohuec. “It’s here that I discovered the Breton ball,” says the former teacher.
» I bought several triplets which I brought back to Poole, England, where we all live, and, regularly, we meet up with other friends, around ten in total, to play games, before an essential debrief to the pub! »
“This is the second time we have welcomed our British friends”
Lovers of French cuisine, the five friends have just spent five days in Argoat, where they met with great pleasure their bowling counterparts from the Emglev ha Karantez association. “This is the second time that we have welcomed our British friends,” rejoices Jean-Yves Le Bras, member of the seniors club.
These reunions gave rise to a very friendly International boules trophypitting the English team against two local teams, with the official presentation of a cup, offered by the Bretons, and a cider horn, brought by their cousins from across the Channel.
Those who would like to know the winners of this confrontation, however, will be at a loss: each team wishing to demonstrate the greatest fair play has designated its opponent victorious!
“They are formidable adversaries”
Jean-Yves Le Bras recognizes, however, with great respect, that “our English friends continue to surprise us with their knowledge of the game. They are formidable adversaries who push us to raise our level to compare.”
When is there a return match in Dorset? The idea began to germinate in the communal bowling alley. “But nothing concrete at the moment,” smile the local bowlers, before wishing their valiant British opponents a safe return.
