The town of Vernon, in Eure, has decided to strengthen its security and fight against delinquency policy by significantly increasing its number of video surveillance cameras. But that's not all. As revealed by our colleagues at Democrat via the site Actu.frthe municipal police also rely heavily on artificial intelligence.
Currently, 137 cameras are installed throughout Vernon. An installation that facilitates legal procedures, but which also has a dissuasive side. The plan is to increase from 165 cameras by the end of the year to 179 a few months later.
A helping hand from AI
Thanks to the proliferation of these cameras which are viewed in real time by municipal police officers, the city has recorded a drop in burglaries and car thefts. She now wants to tackle drug trafficking, which is on the rise, by installing cameras in cities and around certain establishments.
To make this work more precise and interventions faster, these cameras will soon be equipped with an artificial intelligence device. This will make it possible, for example, to read a license plate in a few seconds, or to isolate a person in a crowd, or to detect weapons.
