A few days after the call launched by Pierre Houssais, mayor of Kermaria-Sulard, and elected officials from the sector, for a mobilization on Sunday November 17 in favor of cycling facilities, the Trégor Bicyclette association announced, Monday November 11, in a press release , support this initiative. “Ambitious projects for secure cycling developments along departmental roads, consistently carried out since 2021 by Lannion – Trégor Community and its municipalities, are being prevented by the cycling development benchmark voted by the Côte-d' Departmental Council Armor in April 2024,” justifies the association.
“Not content with being the only Breton department without a serious budget for the development of cycling, our department goes even further in endangering cyclists! », continues the text which deplores the cessation of projects on the sections Mabiliès – Le Rusquet (from Louannec to the north of Lannion), Servel – Pleumeur-Bodou, and Penvern – Trébeurden. According to Trégor bicyclette, the reference in question would impose “a separation space of two meters between cyclists and motorized vehicles”. A constraint so important that it would block “any achievement for many years, imposes land acquisitions, synonymous with increased costs, legal uncertainties and land artificialization”.
“These binding standards are not an obligation, only a recommendation,” explains the association. In the name of the safety of cyclists, our Department effectively condemns them to use dangerous departmental roads for many more years…” Where they are most in danger, according to Trégor bicyclette. The association says it prefers “cycling facilities separated from traffic to no facilities at all…”.
