Additional money for culture for all in La Manche

Since 2021the BDM (Departmental Library of the Channel) a contracted with the State to develop, in its network of 111 municipal and intermunicipal librariesof the departmental public reading policies aimed at strengthen cultural actions in the territories, anchor your storytelling festival “History(s) of fighting” in the Manche landscape, at “ boost local dynamicshas diversify stocks and to expand audiences » such as setting up a musical instrument or vinyl record loan service.

The three-year plan also aimed “to consolidate skills of the BDM on media education and the fight against electronicism ».

Strengthened financial support

As part of its ruralities plan, the State has renewed its financial supportto this policy by multiplying its allocation by 5, this passing from €11,500 per year to €55,430 .

The Department, for its part, maintained its budget of €30,000, which doubles, overall, the credits allocated to all actions starting this year.

This funding increase also makes it possible to extend actions, in particular training for the 800 librarians in the departmental network including 600 volunteers but also strengthen equalitybetween women and men (by inviting as many female as male speakers for these cultural events) and promote an eco-responsible policy.

Ecological transition

« In 2025 we will support libraries in organizing conferences or awareness workshops to the ecological transition », announces Sabine Métral, director of the BDM.

The departmental establishment has already committed in pooling by launching a loan service for items that we do not need on a daily basis. In Carentan and Granville, you can borrow a raclette machine, a sewing machine, a video projector or even a karaoke machine.

Through the renewal of state support and the increase in Drac credits, Jean Morin, presidentof the Department, sees “the recognition of the quality of workled by the BDM and its partner libraries in the field.

The prefect of Manche, Xaviere Brunetière, representing theregional prefectunderlined the dynamics committed to “real cultural action in the territories”.
