Created in the United States district in Lyon in 1995, the first multi-service mediation information point (Pimms) responded to a lack of connection between the most deprived residents and services to the public.
Based on this observation, a group of seven companies (EDF, Enedis, Engie, Keolis, SNCF, Eau du Grand Lyon and La Poste) founded this Pimms. 30 years later, and although the structure has expanded to seven sites in the metropolitan areathe support needs remain as acute as ever.
Hence the signing on November 7, at Pimms mediation from 8e district of Lyon, of an agreement with the Metropolis of Lyon which acts as a financing of 200 000 euros to provide this support to an ever-increasing audience.
In Lyon, a population that is increasingly fragile and far from public services
Around 66,000 people approached Pimms in 2023. Beyond helping the use of digital toolsthe main problem encountered by users, “the association offers support which is not limited to allowances, but also includes actions on mobility (in particular through the distribution of 1,500 TCL passes), fuel poverty and other essential aspects of daily life“, we explain to Pimms mediation.
“Today more than ever, it is important to strengthen our connection with residents and support initiatives such as Pimms mediation, which play an essential role in social cohesion and access to rights.“, specifies Bruno Bernard, president of the Métropole de Lyon.
Present through a national network, Pimms Médiation aims to be a barrier against precariousness and the reduction of inequalities. The agreement signed in Lyon is part of the city contract Neighborhood Commitments 2030initiated at the state level.
