Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni highlights Morocco’s digital strategy

Speaking during a round table on the theme “Exploring the potential of the Arab world as a growing technology market”, as part of the “Meet Arab Tech” event, Ms. Seghrouchni recalled that the Morocco has taken several initiatives for digital transformation, notably the national strategy “Maroc Digital 2030”, noting that the digital economy is considered a “key lever of development”.

This strategy aims to digitize public services, with the aim of providing simple, transparent and accessible services to all citizens, in addition to developing the digital economy, promoting the outsourcing and offshoring sector and supporting startups , explained the minister.

It is also a question of stimulating the creation of value and jobs at the national and African levels, she indicated, adding that “through the production of digital solutions, Morocco contributes to the creation of jobs and generates value added to the economy.

Ms. Seghrouchni stressed, in this sense, that her department is engaged in projects to digitize services such as e-government and the simplification of administrative procedures, which will contribute to strengthening the efficiency of the administration, improving services provided to citizens and stimulating start-ups to launch their projects.

The minister similarly emphasized the importance of digital health, particularly in light of the acute shortage of health services and human resources in the Middle East and North Africa. “There is a need to bring health very close to citizens, and one of the priorities of the ministry is to do so and to exploit digital solutions,” she said.

Speaking at the opening of the Meet Arab Tech, the Moroccan ambassador to Portugal, Othmane Bahnini, indicated, for his part, that digitalization now occupies “a central place in the public policies of Arab countries, given that governments have realized the potential of digital transformation, not only to modernize their economies, but also to meet the aspirations of their citizens, particularly young people who represent a significant part of their population.

“More than a simple tool, the digital sector has become a strategic element for sustainable development, a driver of innovation and a key pillar for strengthening economic competitiveness,” noted the diplomat, highlighting the importance of ”integration of digitalization into their development strategies in a world increasingly interconnected and dependent on technology”.

This transition is manifested by massive investments in technological infrastructure, the modernization of public services and the promotion of digital skills among young people, he observed, noting that initiatives such as e-government platforms , education digitalization programs and the creation of technology parks demonstrate this desire to adapt to the demands of the modern world.

According to its initiators, Meet Arab Tech, organized on the sidelines of the World Web Summit which is being held in Lisbon from November 11 to 14, is a “unique opportunity to explore the enormous potential of the Arab world as a thriving technological market, pole of growing talent and center of innovation”.

Meet Arab Tech, a platform to connect with leaders, invest and foster cross-cultural development, focused on the themes: “Fostering Innovation: The Arab World as a Source of Tech Talent » and “Innovation partnerships: Creating cross-border technology ecosystems”.

The Lisbon Web Summit opens Monday evening, with the participation of more than 70,000 participants, including 3,000 startups and 1,000 investors. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the profound changes it brings will be at the heart of the summit.
