During the last debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the Republican candidate launched fake news about Haitian migrants in Springfield. The city voted en masse for the Republican candidate.

Singled out during the American presidential campaign, Springfield voted overwhelmingly for the Republican candidate and is enjoying his victory. In this town of 60,000 inhabitants, nearly 20,000 Haitians have arrived in recent years. During the campaign, Donald Trump personally targeted the Haitian community, claiming that its members “dogs and cats eat”.

At the heart of a gross rumor denied by the press and local authorities, the city has become the symbol in the eyes of the American right of uncontrolled immigration. Many Haitians now believe they are in Donald Trump's crosshairs, especially those who have a temporary residence permit. Haitians work en masse in industry, and are a new workforce prized by local entrepreneurs. According to Paschhur Castelly, an employee of an employment agency, “Ohio State's industry is going to collapse”if the Haitians were expelled.
