The Mallet Foundation, in Richebourg (), holds theone of 35 exoskeletons sold to date by the company Medimex in the country. The innovation was presented during a dedicated evening on November 7, 2024.

“This is the second version of this exoskeleton with more rehabilitation programs offered to patients and healthcare professionals, informs Rémi Cheret, the company's sales engineer. This acquisition takes place within the framework of a national directive for the deployment of this type of tool. »

Fully funded by the ARS

In January 2023, Emmanuel Macron had in fact promised, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Parisian rehabilitation center Station Debout, that each department of had to be equipped with at least two models of exoskeletons. “In Yvelines, the second will be located in ,” explains the sales engineer. There will also be one in (Eure-et-Loir). »

The cost of this innovation, environ 180 000 €was entirely supported by the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

“It is a strong symbol to introduce this cutting-edge technology into our territory. »

Étienne Mallet, president of the Mallet Foundation

“This shows that innovations are not the preserve of large urban centers. It's a encouraging sign for the future let them come to our countryside,” continued the grandson of the founder of the Mallet Foundation.

Already three robots on site

The foundation is not its first attempt in terms of new technologies. Her technical platforme, or robotics room, is already equipped with three robots specialized in upper limb rehabilitation.

“The exoskeleton is a complement for pathologies affecting the lower limbs,” explained Laurence Chardon, director of the disability and adaptation division. At theera of robots and artificial intelligence in daily life, we could not ignore this project. »

“Accelerate the rehabilitation process”

A demonstration of what it is possible to do with the exoskeleton (walking, turning, passing obstacles, etc.) was on the evening's program.

“The exoskeleton is a revolution in the field of rehabilitation. It allows a patient to take their first steps after months of rehabilitation. »

Lila Oukbir, doctor at the Mallet Foundation

Handling the exoskeleton requires adaptation period for patients, but also for health professionals, some of whom are still in training.

The machine can be adapted equally well to people who have suffered a stroke than paraplegic patients. “Thanks to the remote control, the user can trigger a step or a turn,” explains Rémi Cheret. In the case of a potentially recoverable motor function deficiency, the exoskeleton can boost the rehabilitation process by reducing its duration. »

Around 600 patients affected

Called to play a fundamental role in the care by the health professionals of the 600 patients, including 100 children, from the foundation to the future, the exoskeleton allows “easy reproduction of walking physiology”.

“It is a care tool today, but it can become a daily help for patients», assured Lila Oukbir.

The Mallet Foundation pays tribute to an emblematic doctor

“An exceptional man, reserved, extremely loyal and passionate. A very competent, visionary doctor, pioneer in technologies used for patient rehabilitation. A loving and humble father who believed in human nature. »

The portrait, painted by the colleagues and family of Étienne Grondard, former head doctor of the foundation who died of illness two years ago, lives up to the emotion aroused by the tribute paid this Thursday, November 7.

“Giving his name to the robotics room is a mark of recognition that honors his career,” said his daughter, Anne, present with her mother, her two brothers and the doctor’s four grandchildren. He would have been very embarrassed to be put forward in this way but I am sure he is happy to see us gathered today to think of him. »

Hired by the foundation in 1978, Étienne Gondard worked there until his retirement in 2007. His work on neurological and orthopedic pathologies remains a reference in the field. “Without Étienne Grondard, the foundation would not have the same aura,” assured Jean-François Larrieu, general director of the foundation, before opening the buffet with Italian flavors, “a country he loved.”
