Via a press release published this Sunday, the law firm Zimeray & Finelle representing the interests of the host Arthur announced the filing of a complaint for defamation against the LFI deputy Aymeric Caron for comments made by the latter qualifying the facilitator of “support for the massacres in Gaza”.
A media feud that will be resolved in court. Described as “support for the massacres in Gaza” by LFI deputy Aymeric Caron, host Arthur announced on Sunday, through a press release published by the law firm Zimeray & Finelle representing him, the filing of a complaint for defamation against the elected official.
In the document, the TV host's lawyers also requested the lifting of the MP's immunity.
“While all over the world anti-Jewish attacks wear the mask of defending civilian victims, these comments are irresponsible and unworthy of a parliamentarian. We will request the lifting of the immunity of Deputy Caron and will give them the legal action that their seriousness requires,” Arthur’s representatives wrote in the press release.
To justify this request, they relied on an argument pointing to the use of “hateful and obsessive rhetoric, as irresponsible as it is defamatory” by Aymeric Caron.
“These remarks serve neither the cause of truth nor that of peace. Deputy Caron is not content with grossly falsifying the perspective defended by Arthur, they are part of a hateful and obsessive rhetoric aimed at initiating an inhumanity trial against several Jewish personalities,” the lawyers assured in the press release.
They thus seized the Paris Judicial Court, highlighting the use of the term “genocide” used by the elected official to qualify Israeli military actions in Gaza. According to them, the use of this term, considered “the most serious of crimes”, involves “the imputation of a specific fact likely to undermine honor and reputation”.
