A child with his throat slit, his parents arrested: what we know about the tragedy that occurred this weekend in Berloz

Dn the night from Saturday to Sunday, a four-year-old child was found with his throat slit in Berloz, in the province of Liège, indicated the mayor of Berloz and the Liège public prosecutor’s office, confirming information from Sudinfo. The parents were arrested.

The events occurred during the night from Saturday to Sunday in a home on rue de Willine in Berloz.

A domestic quarrel, without violence, would have broken out between the boy’s parents, said Béatrice Moureau, mayor of Berloz. Later that night, the mother left the scene and the father found the body of his four-year-old son, his throat slit.

“After this quarrel, the man told us that he went to sleep on the sofa on the ground floor. When he woke up, he told us he noticed that the couple’s car had disappeared. The father, not hearing his child, thought that he had gone by car with his mother,” the Hesbaye police chief detailed this Sunday. Comments relayed by Sudinfo.

But going up to the child’s room to check, the man is confronted with a vision of horror. “When he returned to the four-year-old’s room, he found his child’s throat slit,” continues the commander.

An infanticide

“It’s infanticide,” confirmed Catherine Collignon, first deputy of the King of Liège prosecutor. “The mother was arrested in another police zone,” said the mayor of Berloz.

The father was also arrested. An investigation has been opened. Both parents were still being questioned on Sunday afternoon.

“It is indeed a suspicious death and there is no doubt about the intervention of a third party. Both parents have been arrested and investigations are underway,” confirmed Catherine Collignon, First Deputy Prosecutor of the King of Liège, this Sunday late in the afternoon.

“We all have goosebumps”

According to information from Sudinfo, the family, originally from Walloon Brabant, settled in Berloz around five or six years ago. The child found lifeless was not educated in a school in the town, but in Waremme.

After the tragedy, the mother left the house where the child’s throat was slit and was on the run. She was then located by the police and is currently, like the father, deprived of her liberty.

The mayor of Berloz, Béatrice Moureau, was informed of the facts and reacted: “We all have goosebumps, it’s incomprehensible… It was a family without history, they never had any problems with the police nor the municipality,” she declared.

Firefighters from the Hesbaye police zone established a security perimeter around the house where the tragedy took place on Sunday morning. The Liège Public Prosecutor’s Office also visited the scene, accompanied by a forensic doctor.
