Lhe day of Sunday, November 10 was marked by numerous departures of exile boats which were reported to the regional operational surveillance and rescue center (Cross) Gris-Nez off the coast of Pas-de-Calais.
The Channel and North Sea maritime prefecture reports that early in the morning, the Cross Gris-Nez engaged the helicopter Dauphin of the French Navy based in Le Touquet and SNS 077 Our Lady of Risban from the SNSM Calais station to relocate and assess the situation of a boat.
Once there, everyone on board requested assistance from SNS077. The latter rescued 26 people who were then brought back to the dock in Calais.
Another operation during the day
Later in the day, the Cross Gris-Nez engaged the Minck. The crew began monitoring the boat. During the surveillance, 25 people on board requested assistance. The other people still on board refused assistance from the Minck. The 25 people rescued were brought back to the dock in Calais.
Once at the dock, the rescued people were taken care of by the land rescue services and the border police. “Given the risks of falling overboard or injuries incurred by people in the event of forced intervention by French emergency services, the choice is made to let the other people present on the boats continue their journey”, writes the maritime prefecture.
If you are a victim or witness to a sea incident, contact emergency services by telephone at number 196 or by VHF on channel 16.
