With their arched horns and their brown coat speckled here and there with white, they are very cute. In recent years, dozens of goats, goats and kids very probably escaped from a meadow, have taken up residence in Rainvillers (Oise), a commune located south of Beauvais.

Walkers who use the Trans’Oise will not fail to come across them when they take this green path from rue d'Aux Marais.

“It’s a real herd”

“They keep reproducing and now it’s a real herd,” jokes a resident of this peaceful village of 900 souls, nestled in the heart of the Avelon valley.

To the point to worry some residents of the commune, who observe the comings and goings of these “biquettes” as they call them, with a half-touched, half-worried eye.

The herd made up of around ten domestic goats which have become wild era in the village and in the thickets along the green flow.

These goats are left to their own devices all year round. We see them wandering in winter, looking for food. Farmers have even complained about it, because they are going to help themselves in their fields.

The mystery remains as to their wild presence in nature

According to this resident, the herd is growing visibly. “There are more every month. We see little kids being born. How far will this stop? »

“Some of my friends no longer dare to take their little dogs out for fear that the goats will attack them. They are still big animals,” adds her friend Sylvie, crossed along the Avelon.

How did ruminants get there? This is the question that everyone in the village is asking.

Was it an individual who abandoned his animals there because he could no longer take care of them? Do they come from another farm? No one really knows.

Their arrival dates back around “three to four years” according to the mayor, who has donkeys in an enclosure near which the beautiful alpines regularly come.

“There's lots of grass along the greenway, not just brambles, which must attract them here. But they do not venture into the streets of the village and stay in a very specific sector,” reassures the elected official, who joins the SPAs of the area to try to find them a place to stay. “There might be a reception solution, but I am waiting for a return,” he says.

By virtue of his police powers, he is responsible for this problem, even if the goats are not currently causing any disruption to traffic. “I don’t really have a lasting solution,” says the councilor, who is keen to find a non-lethal solution to this problem.

I think many residents would be saddened (if they were euthanized). Especially since parents tell me that they are delighted to be able to take their children to see them.

According to him, these goats are “not dangerous”. They would even be “rather elusive” in nature, whichOise News was also able to verify on site.

Some Rainville residents, on the contrary, find them very pleasant and want them to stay there. “They even bring them bread. Afterwards, if they really pose a problem, people can take them home, no problem! », concludes the mayor.
