a dead whale washes up on the coast of Val de Saire

The cetacean was seen stranded near Val de Saire on Sunday November 10 morning, in an area inaccessible on foot.

A dead whale washed up on the coast of the English Channel on Sunday November 10, indicates the Cotentin cetacean study group (GECC) on Facebook. The animal was found on rocks in Val de Saire, in an area that is not accessible on foot.

“The rising tide, currents and wind will probably move the carcass,” details the GEEC on Facebook.

Necessary analyzes

The cetacean was found in the commune of Réville. To Bleu, its mayor Yves Asseline indicates having been “warned by the police and firefighters shortly before 10 a.m.”.

“It's a young one, five meters long and weighing around two tonnes. We have already had dolphins stranded on our coasts, seals, but to my knowledge never a whale”, he adds on the microphone of our colleagues.

For his part, the president of the GECC adds that he cannot “confirm anything concerning his death for the moment”, analyzes needing to be carried out.

People observing the whale are invited to report it to PELAGIS coordinator of the national stranding network at 05.46.44.99.10 or to the GECC marine mammals at 07.66.17.50.48.

“A person authorized to intervene will go to the scene as quickly as possible to examine the animal,” concludes the GECC, inviting passers-by not to approach or touch the whale.
