The railway development work for the future Bordeaux-Toulouse LGV line will therefore be able to resume. The summary proceedings aimed at suspending the cutting of trees were rejected by the Toulouse administrative court.
The administrative jurisdiction of Toulouse has therefore deemed legal the felling of trees for the construction of the future LGV, which must connect Toulouse to Bordeaux in one hour and Toulouse to Paris in 3 hours by 2032.
The association “Les Amis de la Terre de Midi Pyrénées” had requested the suspension of tree cutting on the railway development site north of Toulouse. The court ruled that the requests presented were unfounded, and rejected them this Friday, November 8.
These trees are located in Saint-Jory, north of Toulouse, on the right-of-way of the future Bordeaux-Toulouse LGV, along the Garonne side canal. Trees which, according to associations, “were not reported in the environmental authorization signed by the prefecture”.
“We argued that these are indeed rows of trees, and not isolated trees, as the SNCF wants us to believe. The prefect signed a new emergency decree, this Friday morning, so that the authorization includes these trees , a procedure that we contest”explained Jean Olivier, president of Friends of the Earth Midi-Pyrénées, before the hearing, calling for “an examination procedure and a public inquiry”.
As with the A69 construction site, “squirrels” have taken over the trees on the construction site. A rally is underway this Saturday, November 9, near the Saint-Jory lock and condemned trees, at the call of environmental defense associations.
