Confident French people, overall, but not yet ready to test it themselves. An Odoxa survey for Winamax and RTL, carried out on 1000 people before the clashes following the match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League, reveals that 59% of those questioned do not fear that this match “matter in France the Israeli-Palestinian conflict”, 64% have confidence in the public authorities to ensure the security of the match and 74% think that it should not take place at behind closed doors but with the public, and preferably in Paris rather than in the provinces, at 64%.
This should reassure Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, who indicated on the networks that he “would not back down because that would amount to abdicating in the face of threats of violence and anti-Semitism.” However, the ticketing is not a dazzling success, to say the least, with barely 20,000 tickets having found buyers for the moment, for a meeting which will have to mobilize 2,500 members of the forces of the order, according to RMC sport.
A figure which can still increase, but which Philippe Diallo, the president of the FFT, understands perfectly, interviewed by our colleagues from West France : “This tense context can lead many spectators to feel fear. By Thursday, I hope that the stadium will be more full than that, but it is clear that, contrary to our habits, this match will not be played behind closed doors.” The Stade de France will therefore have a little air of 2021 next Thursday, with a closed third ring and a small contingent in the lower stands like in the days of Covid gauges.
