While the Île-de-France Region has just successfully welcomed the entire planet for the Olympic and Paralympic Games which made history, it is the turn of another region to assert itself on the international scene: Casablanca-Settat. With a predominantly young population, the challenges are great as we approach hosting the African Cup of Nations in 2025 and the Football World Cup in 2030 within a Kingdom resolutely focused on the future.
A capital region and showcase in the eyes of the world, it is a challenge being taken up by the Kingdom of Morocco which is establishing itself as the country turned towards modernity which builds its future through education, sport and culture. At the heart of an African continent where the French-speaking world resonates deeply and makes sense alongside local traditions and talents. While President Emmanuel Macron was welcomed by the King, His Majesty Mohamed VI a few days ago, no less than 22 memorandums of understanding were signed and a vision that combines passion, ambition and innovation for relations strengthened Franco-Moroccan relations.

Passion, ambition et transmission
In Casablanca-Settat, the Regional Council will not have waited for this visit from the Head of State to move forward and make sport, education, subjects with high stakes and societal impact. This is what President Abdellatif Maâzouz told us, who had the opportunity to travel to the Ile-de-France region to move forward with a cross-functional convention: “With 483,312 inhabitants, 43.6% of whom reside in urban areas, we are making progress in all areas with the stated desire to be in action and on the ground. At the heart of our region, we build and reflect on the world so that Moroccans can benefit from our commitment and so that our region continues to prove to the world the ambition and determination that drives it.”.

By 2030, the share of 15-24 year olds will represent one of the main age groups in the country. Youth therefore have a vital role to play in the social, economic, cultural and political development of the country.
An active and unifying youth
A vision shared by Vice-President for Youth and Sports Souhaila El Boustani: “In all the neighborhoods and districts of the region, expectations are high and young people are ready to be actors in a changing world and a kingdom at their service. This is our challenge, to bring her together and give her confidence through a project that will combine passion, work, innovation and sport, even esports and culture. We are thinking about different avenues which will lead us to collaborate with other network leaders such as the Ile-de-France regional Olympic committee whose experience is impactful on these themes and which can both inspire and support us”. It is therefore a real road map between Casablanca and the Ile de France which is being built with Morocco as the spearhead of Africa and an emblematic country of a sport which unites the people.
A card to play in sports business
All of the economic, ecological and societal changes make the Casablanca Settat Region, « the place to be » when we gravitate into the sports ecosystem with a World Cup expected in 2030 and which will definitively mark a turning point for the country and its youth. A few weeks ago, in mid-October, the continent's sports business event was held with the Africa Sports Expo dedicated to sport and well-being. “With 35,000 visitors, 120 exhibitors representing 13 countries and 4 continents, it is further proof that the city is active and dynamic on sport which already represents 2.5% of GDP in Morocco » as recalled by Vincent Chaudel, sports economist. Whether in terms of the organization of GESI (Major International Sports Events) or the development of activity or even the creation of equipment manufacturers, the France-Morocco ticket in general, Île-de-France & Casabalanca-Settat has before it, a great opportunity to become a locomotive even beyond the French-speaking zone.
As a confirmation of this ambition, the Mayor of Casablanca, Nabila Rmili, who in 2021 became the first female mayor of the economic capital of the kingdom, took advantage of her presence at the ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the King's enthronement organized by the President of the district of Sidi Othman to declare: “our city is at the heart of the world's challenges and I am very proud of the work that we do collectively for youth, for culture and to ensure that each neighborhood can continue to remain alive with a range of activities and services as much as possible. close to the populations ».

With more than 3.5 million inhabitants, more than half of whom are women, the challenges are immense and women will also have a major role to play. A transversal, societal mission which is in fact inspiring and impactful because we know it, we have measured it, sport and major sporting events can change our lives. It remains for the region to do things and make it known so that each young person can dream and transform their vision of the world and of Morocco into a life project and reality.
