Haute-Corse is placed under orange vigilance this weekend. Violent storms and heavy rainfall have already hit the eastern region of the island since Saturday, causing concern among residents.
Météo France has issued an alert concerning particularly intense weather conditions. These storms are expected to continue through Sunday morning, with significant risks of flooding and flash flooding.
According to the latest Météo France bulletin, these weather phenomena are caused by a depression in the Mediterranean. This causes exceptional amounts of rain, with accumulations exceeding 200 mm in just 24 hours, the equivalent of two months of rain.
Forecasts indicate precipitation of up to 70 mm per hour locally, highlighting the extreme intensity of this stormy episode.
Local authorities recommend maximum caution and encourage residents to limit their travel. This is to avoid areas likely to be flooded.
“The risk of floods and flash floods remains high in coastal areas and valleys,” they warn. Soil saturation increases the dangers.
