An approach to encourage Valentinois and Valentinoises to express their opinion regarding organ donation, in a context where 27,000 patients are waiting for a transplant.
In France, organ donation has a new ambassador, named Valence. In the municipality, awareness-raising panelson which the green ribbon (symbol of organ donation) can be seen, have been installed. This initiative is the result of an agreement between Valence town hall, its hospital center and the Greffes + collective. The goal is to ensure that organ donation becomes a topic in more homes and that more people donate their agreement during their lifetimeand not just out of principle.

Reduce the refusal rate
Indeed, according to national figures, 27 000 patients are waiting for a transplant, for only 6,000 transplant recipients per year. The main obstacle to donations concerns precisely the refusal rate, which is around 36%. A far cry from the 15% hoped for. At the same time, less than one in two French people spoke about it concretely, despite the 80% who would be in favor organ donation (Biomedicine Agency survey). “We hope to bring the subject into all homes so that all donors who wish can be collected,” said the mayor of Valencia Nicolas Daragon.
