The 2024 edition of the Vendée Globe is endowed with 800,000 euros distributed among the skippers who have completed their world tour. For the winner of this sailing race around the world, without assistance and without stopover, we are a long way from the record amounts received by football or tennis players.

€800,000 is the sum that will be distributed among the Vendée Globe skippers who manage to complete their world tour.
Yannick Bestaven, winner of the 2020-2021 edition, received €200,000.
For comparison, Léon Marchand, the four-time Olympic swimming champion at the Paris Olympics, received €80,000 per medal, plus €20,000 for his bronze medal. That’s the pretty sum of €340,000.
Tadej Pogacar received €500,000 for his victory in the 2024 Tour de France, to which must be added €11,000 per stage victory, or a “small” bonus of €66,000…
Carlos Alcaraz pocketed €2,400,000 for his victory at Roland-Garros last June.
The prizes received by the Vendée Globe skippers are therefore very far from the bonuses granted to other professional athletes.
A total prize pool of €800,000 is awarded to the skippers who complete this 2024 edition, the same amount as in 2020. €700,000 will be distributed among the first 10.
The skippers classified beyond 10th place will share the remaining €100,000 including tax.
“The share of each of them cannot be higher than the price received by the 10th. The remainder will then be distributed, in equal shares, between all the skippers classified from the 4th classified skipper, specifies the notice of race for the 2024-2025 edition, in the event that 10 or fewer skippers are classified, the remaining amount of undistributed prizes will be distributed equally among all classified skippers.
The skippers of the 2024 Vendée Globe will start the race on Sunday November 10.
During the previous edition, there were 25 of them to complete their world tour. Eight had to abandon en route. This year, there are 40 on the starting line.
