INVESTIGATION – On October 5, nearly 2,500 demonstrators gathered in Guéret to protest against the establishment of a wood pellet factory. A project that mixes passions, misunderstandings… and misinformation.
On October 5, 2024, 2,500 demonstrators took to the streets in the city center of Guéret, the capital of Creuse, in the north of Limousin. The protesters did not take off against the “mega-factories” wood growing in the region. A long line of demonstrators brandished banners with fiery slogans: “the wood industry has a future without megaprojects”, “no to clearcuts”. Organized by collectives “Mega-sawmill No Thanks” et “Standing Forest”the procession mixes unions, associations and elected officials. Among them are Mathilde Panot, president of the France Insoumise group in the National Assembly, and Marie Toussaint, Ecologist MEP. A tour de force for Canopée, an association specializing in advocacy for the defense of forests. By filing several appeals against the establishment of a pellet factory in Creuse, the association has greatly contributed to shining the spotlight on Guéret and its 13,000 inhabitants…
