A very special edition is being prepared: the 30the Swiss Canyon Trail will take place June 6-8 next year. The organizers have in fact decided to mark this anniversary by proposing a route of 166 kilometers, or 100 miles, which will exceptionally pass through the Gorges de l'Areuse, in the heart of the Creux du Van nature reserve: “The State Council granted us a waiver, after months of negotiations,” Patrick Christinat, president of the organizing committee, said in a press release. “This project has been close to our hearts for more than two years. We are proud to have made it a reality for this 30th edition. It’s a real gift for runners, but also for all lovers of our region.”
Single exemption
According to Patrick Christinat, this exemption was not the subject of any opposition, but it was granted subject to some restrictions: runners will have to follow a marked route on existing hiking trails, with a limit of 300 participants on the route. . No refreshments will be organized in this area. The use of drones, permanent ground markings or any device disrupting the natural environment will be prohibited.
The Council of State clearly emphasized that passage through the Gorges de l'Areuse was only granted for this 30e edition. Registrations for this queen distance of 166 kilometers will open on 1is December at 12 p.m.
With 210 days to go before the event, more than 700 participants have already registered for the distances of 16 km, 31 km, 51 km, 81 km and 111 km, an increase of more than 150% compared to the previous year. This is what the Swiss Canyon Trail press release further indicates. /comm-mne
