“We are really afraid that this will put the establishment at risk. ” A stifling climate fell on the Condorcet high school, in Limay (Yvelines), from a course on infernal representation in poetry, from the Middle Ages to the 18th century^e century.

Against all expectations, this educational sequence sparked an unexpected controversy with a handful of students, one of them going so far as to accuse the teacher of blasphemy against Islam and insidiously threaten it with reprisals.

At the time of the “Paty trial”, state services are taking the matter very seriously

While the trial of the Samuel Paty affair opened on Monday, November 4, 2024 in Paris and the establishment is regularly subject to intrusions by external elements, the assassination in 2020 of this history teacher at leaving his college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine for showing his students caricatures of Mohammed is on everyone's mind. State services are taking the matter very seriously.

A student asks to see a representation of Hell in Islam

During October, in a second classduring a French lesson entitled “Welcome to Hell”, a student asks the teacher to show “images” representing this notion among Muslims.

She procrastinates, takes the time to consult with her colleagues, and, October 10in the next class on the same subject, refuses to show these illustrations.

“I explained to the students what I had seen on the Internet. It went against my values. Out of respect for [ceux] of Muslim faith, out of respect for other faiths and out of respect for the establishment, I explained that I would not show them, but that they were free to go and do their own research,” she notes in a report that 78 news was able to consult.

It was then that another student reacted on a your accuser : “Madam, what you are saying is serious. You mean you saw the prophet with women in Hell. ” Incomprehension ? Provocation? Insolence?

Still, he immediately addresses menacesbarely veiled to her teacher: “Besides, Madam, what time do you finish today? I think on Tuesdays you finish earlier? And on Thursday too? » When leaving the room, he will even say: “Madame, take care of yourself when you come home this evening…”

The teacher immediately calls the mother of this teenager . Half an hour later, the latter will come to apologize, ensuring that his threats should not be taken seriously.

The matter does not end there

But the matter does not end there. In the days that followed, in each class, the first student, the one who wanted to see images of Hell according to Islam, curiously returned, insisting that the teacher show the class these elements. The teacher, on sick leaveSince then, don't give in. “His attitude is more and more aggressive as the days go by,” she notes in another report.

A report to the rectorate

“We believe that this request was a trap set for our colleague to then accuse him of things and others. She was the target of unhealthy questions from her students and suffered a certain amount of pressure,” explains another teacher from comprehensive high schoolwhere the team has been denouncing problems of insecurity and lack of resources for years.

According to our information, the ddeputy academic director initially fearing “a serious case of radicalization”, took this matter up to the rectorate.

They do not show signs of radicalization

According to other sources, these two boys – against whom a disciplinary procedurewas engaged – and their family are unknown to the police and do not show signs of any radicalization.

A curious intrusion sows a little more panic

And mysterious event recorded in an “establishment fact”, a sort of internal handbook, has however come to sow confusion over the proportions that this incident could have taken. “Tuesday October 15: a mathematics teacher sees a student enter her class. Without looking at the board or the students, he approaches her and asks if she is a French teacher. She points out that he is not a student. No response. »

No link can be established for the moment between the initial misunderstanding and this intrusion. However, the school management immediately took things seriously. From October 16, the management of academic services, the police and territorial informationwere alerted to the situation.

Psychosis two days later

We feared the worst two days later. On October 18, a new intrusion – “they are frequent in the establishment” underlines a teacher – causes real panic in this particular context, mixing this internal affair and the national tribute paid four days before to Samuel Paty and Dominique Bernard .

Around 2 p.m., a 17-year-old former student evaded vigilance at the gate to enter the high school grounds and disrupt several classes. He left before the arrival of the police, deployed in large numbers while the establishment remained confined several hours.

According to the police investigation, this boy, placed in police custody at the end of the day, “had not no criminal intent » and came with the aim of making a joke. “This intrusion has absolutely no link with the initial controversy,” insist several sources close to the matter.

The Academic Inspectorate came to meet the teachers

Monday, November 4, executives from the Academic Inspection came to meet the staff, who benefit from listening cellfollowing these events. Agents from the Île-de-France Region, dedicated to high school security, were also deployed in Condorcet on this back-to-school day to calm things down. Without knowing if this is linked to all this pressure, the principal took sick leave the next day.

“The Directorate of Departmental Services of National Education will soon meet with the police in order to define a plan d’actionin order to secure the establishment,” adds a source at the academy.
