Managed by a joint union since 1991, the Pointe du Raz site will now be administered solely by the departmental council. For several years, the site has required the implementation of actions to improve reception conditions and preserve the site. These improvements were made difficult by complex governance (made up of the Region, the Department, and the intercommunity, editor's note). Maël de Calan, president of the Department, was in Cap-Sizun, Thursday, November 7, as a preamble to the Cap-Sizun Pointe du Raz community council, to present and finalize this transition.
The Pointe du Raz site welcomes around a million visitors each year. Pointe du Raz has been labeled a Grand Site de France since 2004. The management of the label will be taken over by the intercommunity. This decision, and therefore the dissolution of the joint union, was voted unanimously.
An investment of 3.7 million euros
This handover will be accompanied by an investment plan for the development of the site. “It will be large-scale and launched to modernize reception infrastructure. This initiative marks the start of a new page for this site which is one of the most emblematic in Finistère,” announced Maël de Calan. “An investment program of 3.7 million euros will be implemented to improve public reception and modernize infrastructure,” added Didier Guillon, vice-president of the Department.
The funding over several years will be distributed between the Department (1.6 million euros), the community of municipalities (1.1 million euros), and the Region (1 million euros). The work will concern the reception building, parking, toilets and sanitation.
The Department already manages 120 sensitive natural sites over 5,000 hectares. The Pointe du Raz site employs six agents year-round and seasonal workers from summer onwards. The handover will be effective on January 1, 2025.
