La Fleur des Champs, the village's organic grocery store, will undergo a radical transformation by becoming an association.
After three years of existence, the organic grocery store La Fleur des champs in Plessier-sur-Saint-Just will experience a rebirth. “The figure is not enough to earn a salaryrecognizes Laëtitia Vandamme, employee of the company and today at the initiative of this renewal. The idea is to create an association inspired by the model of the solidarity grocery store in Creil.”
If customers will find, as usual, all the good products to which they are accustomed, behind the counter, they will no longer encounter employees, just volunteers who have come to give a little of their time.
Depending on everyone's availability and affinities, these volunteers may be assigned to different positions such as cash register or supplies. “If we don't organize La Fleur des Champs as an association, it will close and that would be a shame for our loyal customers. We would like to keep our objectives of promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly food while developing others”continues Laëtitia Vandamme.
Soon a third place in the grocery store
Thus, a third place should soon see the light of day. A reorganization of the premises is planned in order to accommodate the third place. Thus, the current store will become the large room of the third place while the products will go to where the workshops currently take place. “The objective is to create social connections. We can organize reading or game evenings. Or even Disco soup evenings with soups made from unsold vegetables.”
Latest idea, rename La Fleur des champs to really cut the cord. “We really want everyone to understand that it’s not the same thing. It will be recognition.” To think about the future of organic groceries, Laëtitia Vandamme is accompanied by around ten other people, mainly customers who feel invested.
As for the recruitment of volunteers, it is underway. “Ideally, we would need 50 people to be able to complete the schedules. We really need invested people, who share our values of sustainable food”concludes Laëtitia Vandamme. The call is launched.
